Six appear at Birmingham Crown Court accused of forcing people to work on cannabis farms

Six people appeared in a municipal court accused of forcing people to work on cannabis farms. The six are accused of being part of a criminal gang responsible for growing and moving cannabis across the Midlands and northern England.

All six – including three Vietnamese nationals – were charged with conspiracy to facilitate the entry of workers into the UK for exploitation and conspiracy to produce cannabis. Their arrests came after an investigation led by the National Crime Agency.




The six were released on bail after a hearing at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court today, May 31. They will appear at Birmingham Crown Court on June 28.

The names of the accused are:

  • Mai Van Nguyen, 34, formerly of Jeremiah Road, Wolverhampton
  • Doung Dinh, 37, of St John’s Walk, Birmingham
  • Nghia Dinh Tran, 23, of Forty Acre Lane, Canning Town, London
  • Amjad Nawaz, 43, of Oakhurst Road, Birmingham
  • Tasawar Hussain, 53, of Millward Street, Birmingham
  • Shamraiz Akhtar, 53, of Nechells Park Road, Birmingham
