The Mighty Hoopla will go ahead this weekend after Brockwell Park turned into a mud pit

The Mighty Hoopla is officially taking place this weekend, organizers confirmed today (Friday, May 31). The plans were put on hold after Brockwell Park was turned into a muddy mess following heavy rain.

The team put down the ground cover in key areas, such as around the toilets, alongside Lambeth Council.

Mighty Hoopla wrote on Instagram: “WE ARE ON! We’ve seen you in your DMs, inbox and messages so we wanted to let you know that thanks to the incredible work of our team on site and working closely with Lambeth Council, Mighty Hoopla 2024 has passed all health and safety checks and we will be ready to open our doors tomorrow!

“We have installed extensive ground covers and additional accessible tracking in the last 72 hours. However, the coating can be uneven in parts and the site has areas that are muddy, so PLEASE wear sensible footwear, just this once! (Above the ankle will keep you safe and dry – the rest of your outfit is just you girls!)”

They continued to advise people to wear boots or boots because of the mud. They suggested festival-goers leave tights, sandals or slippers and heels at home, adding they would not be “the best option this weekend”

The annual Mighty Hoopla is popular with the LGBTQ+ community. This year’s performers include Nelly Furtado, Jessie Ware, Rita Ora. In previous years, the likes of Kelly Rowland, Years and Years and Sugababes have graced the festival stages.
