One person dies after being hit by a train at Stratford station

One person has died after being hit by a train near Stratford station, police have confirmed. British Transport Police were called to the scene at 5pm yesterday (Thursday 30 May) to reports of a casualty on the railway.

The person was, unfortunately, pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are not treating the death as suspicious.




A spokesman said: “British Transport Police received a report at 5pm yesterday (May 30) of an accident on the lines near Stratford station. Paramedics also attended, however unfortunately one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not considered to be suspicious. and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Stratford London Underground and National Rail stations were closed while emergency services responded to the incident.

There was no service on the Elizabeth line between Whitechapel and Shenfield and severe delays on the rest of the line. Jubilee Line and Central Line trains were not stopping at Stratford station, TfL Access said last night.

Greater Anglia services to Essex and Norwich were also affected.
