Liverpool’s move has increased as Bryan Mbeumo opens the door to a summer exit from Brentford

Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo is on Liverpool’s transfer radar and has said he wants to play in the “biggest competitions, at the best clubs”.

Liverpool have been admirers of the 24-year-old for several months.

An ankle injury kept the Cameroon international out from December until March, but he still managed to score nine goals and register six assists in 25 Premier League appearances this season.

Mbeumo has been regularly singled out for praise by Brentford manager Thomas Frank since his August 2019 move from French club Troyes for a record fee of £5.6m.

In total, Mbeumo scored 50 goals and provided a further 42 assists in 200 total appearances for the Bees. His current deal expires in the summer of 2026, but Brentford retain the option to trigger a one-year extension.

Liverpool remain interested in Mbeumo, who is not looking for an immediate exit from Brentford but is understood to be open to a new challenge.

The Reds are targeting attacking reinforcements under new boss Arne Slot after a string of high-profile exits in recent years, including those of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Mbeumo is a versatile forward who can play on the right of a front three, as part of a two-man strike force or even as a lone striker. He played for Cameroon at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“I spent five years at Brentford, at a club that allowed me to grow and pass a milestone, but yes, I would like to play in the biggest competitions, at the best clubs,” said he for the French newspaper L’Equipe.

“It’s tempting to see some big clubs interested in me. We will see. You have to be prepared for the future.”

In an interview with Standard sport in August, Mbeumo said: “I would love to win the Champions League. Everything is possible.”
