Shot and painstakingly shot and composed over five years, the film follows Borja, a young boy who grew up in Castellón, where the tradition of bullfighting weighs heavily on his shoulders. his grandfather Mathias, pins his own unfulfilled dreams of becoming a professional bullfighter on his grandson in hopes of lifting the family out of poverty. Like most underprivileged children who feel trapped in a life with few options and opportunities, Borja sees no future beyond orange fields, fishing and bullfighting.

Director De Reyes said, “I could see in Borja’s expressive eyes that he felt a sense of pressure from his family that didn’t sit well with his personality. I watched him grow into a young adult on camera. every moment as he has, knowing his purpose was given to him from birth and yet his heart struggles to make sense of the world, with the love he has for his mother and little brother. Eric. In my film, I wanted to reflect reality as Borja felt it, capturing the gentle passage of time in a timeless coming-of-age story.”

The Boy and the Suit of Lights is produced by Scottish group Aconite Pictures Ltd. Funding partners involved are Screen Scotland, Chicken and Egg, Rustic Canyon and Women Make Movies. It is sold worldwide by Syndicado Film Sales.
