2019 general election results for seats in and around Bristol

As the nation heads to the polls in a few weeks, many voters will be looking at the results one last time to gauge how much of a chance each party has in their area. In 2019, constituencies in and around Bristol were split between Labor and the Conservatives.

Based on the results of the last general election, in some areas Labor will be favored and retain their seats, while in others they face a tighter race. But a lot has changed in the last five years, which means these results aren’t a perfect indicator of what might happen on July 4th.

Recent boundary changes also mean that the areas covered by parliamentary constituencies in 2019 will not exactly match this year’s constituencies. This after population changes caused seat boundaries to be redrawn so that each MP represents roughly the same number of people.

Bristol East

Bristol East included Fishponds, St Anne’s, Eastville, St George, Stockwood and Brislington. The seat has been held by Labor since 1992, but was previously represented by a Conservative MP from 1983 to 1992. Kerry McCarthy has been an MP since 2005.

Last time, in 2019, she won with a majority of more than 10,000 and a 20-point lead over the second-placed Conservatives. The Liberal Democrats came in third, followed by the Greens and then the Brexit Party.

The results were: Labor, 27,717 votes, 53.1 percent; Conservatives, 16,923 votes, 32.4 percent; Liberal Democrat, 3,527 votes, 6.8 per cent; Greens, 2,106 votes, four percent; Brexit Party, 1,881 votes, 3.6%.
