10 events to help you celebrate in Birmingham

Happy pride! You’ll have more opportunities to say those words this June, which is Pride Month in the United States. People in Birmingham are celebrating with the rest of the country, especially over the next two weeks. Here are 10 events that will help you show your pride, recognize the LGBTQ+ community, and spread a message of equality and acceptance in the Magic City.

Funky Food Truck Festival

What the: Food trucks, craft beer, live entertainment, artisans, vendors, pop-up shops and more.

When: June 1, 11am-4pm

Where: Cahaba Brewing Co., 4500 Fifth Ave. South, Building C, Birmingham.

Admittance: Free, donations welcome. Proceeds benefit AIDS Alabama.

The Garden Party: Pride

What the: DJ music, dancing, food, drinks, live entertainment and more. The event described as an “all-day inclusive party for all gender identities, sexual preferences, orientations, races, LGBTQIA+ and the entire community.”

When: June 2, 14.00-22.00

Where: Avondale Brewing Co., 201 41st St. South, Birmingham.

Admittance: $10 general admission, through Ticketmaster. Hosted by Central Alabama Pride and the Magic City Acceptance Center.

Pride Skate Night

What the: Roller skating, music and socializing.

When: June 4, 7pm-10pm

Where: Skates 280, 7043 Meadowlark Drive, Birmingham.

Admittance: Free, donations accepted at the door. Hosted by Central Alabama Pride.

The Idol of Pride

What the: Singing competition with $300 prize to the winner, plus a seat on the main stage at Pride Fest.

When: June 5. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., event registration at 7:30 p.m., show at 8:00 p.m.

Pride Glow Bowling

What the: Cosmic bowling, with black lights used to illuminate bowling lanes and pins, giving a fluorescent effect in the dark.

When: June 6, 21:00-23:30

Where: Bowlero, 2908 Riverview Road, Birmingham.

Admittance: $20, includes unlimited bowling and shoe rental.

Pride Milk and Honey

What the: Friday night dance party with DJ music by Coco, David X Daisy, Stevo Blaque; plus Twhat Weiland, LT Fresh, Luminarts Entertainment and more.

When: June 7 at 9 p.m

Where: Saturn, 200 41st St. South, Birmingham.

Admittance: $25 in advance, $30 day of show.

Pride Drag Brunch

What the: Brunch with drag show with Shannel, Alex Andrews, Tiffany Carrington, Green, Malik Carrington, Lauren Lou and more. Hosted by Erika and Daroneshia D’nae Starr.

When: June 8 at 11 o’clock

Where: Haven, 2515 Sixth Ave. South, Birmingham.

Admittance: $35 general admission, $50 artist meet-and-greet, $800 VIP dining for eight (includes brunch buffet, meet-and-greet, tableside beverage service). Online tickets available here.

Pride Parade

What the: The Mardi Gras-style parade was led by grand marshals Joi Miner, a poet and novelist, and DIY Drag, a group of experimental drag artists. The parade includes marchers, floats, organizations, businesses and community groups.

When: Saturday, June 8, 8 p.m

Where: The parade route along Seventh Avenue South from 32nd Street South to 22nd Street South in the Lakeview neighborhood of Birmingham.

Admittance: Free of charge.

Pride Fest

What the: Day-long festival with drag artists, live music, vendors, food trucks, children’s activities, other entertainers and more. The lineup includes Robin S., Adina Howard, Ms. Kasha Davis, Axel Andrews, Angeria Paris VanMicheals, Brita Filter and more. Hosted by Kharris and Dominique Divine.

When: Sunday, June 9, 11:00-19:00

Where: Linn Park, 710 20th St. North, Birmingham.

Admittance: Free General Admission, $100-$150 VIP, available online here. VIP benefits include food, drinks, meet and greets with artists.

Finding My Rainbow Book Release Party.

What the: Family-friendly event to celebrate the publication of “Finding My Rainbow,” the new book by Central Alabama Pride President Josh Coleman. The author describes the book as a “delightful children’s book that tells the story of Josh, a boy from Alabama, on his journey to self-discovery and acceptance. Perfect for families, educators and allies, this story celebrates the power of love and pride.” Party includes drag queen story time hosted by Kharris, author Q&A, book signing, snacks and drinks.

When: June 12 at 6 p.m

Where: Magic City Acceptance Center, 3130 Third Ave. South, Birmingham.
