M40 closure live as severe congestion builds after four-vehicle crash and oil spill

Part of the M40 southbound has been closed following a four-vehicle crash and an oil spill. The accident happened between J12 B4451 Gaydon Road (Gaydon) and J11 A422 (Banbury).

As a result of the closure, National Highways East Midlands is warning motorists of serious delays. It is understood there are officers at the scene.




Other emergency services were also called to the scene of the accident. This includes firefighters and paramedics.

It is not yet clear which vehicles were involved in the collision. What is known is that delays are currently up to 60 minutes.

Ambulances on scene

As well as firefighters and police, there were reports on social media of ambulances at the scene.

There has been no official confirmation of the vehicles involved or whether there are any serious injuries.

National Highways is leading the operation at the scene.

Severe delays

The latest warning from National Highways East warns of construction delays.

The accident followed shortly after 11am.

It is understood that the vehicles involved in the collision are being recovered from the stretch of motorway.
