Manchester United are to agree an £80,000-a-week deal for Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo will sign a new contract with Manchester United after UEFA Euro 2024 in a deal worth £80,000-a-week.

According to a report by the Daily Star, Kobbie Mainoo has postponed final talks over a new deal with Manchester United until after UEFA Euro 2024. The two sides have reached an agreement in principle with a contract worth £80,000-a-week. However, the renewal won’t become official until July.

Kobbie Mainoo and his rapid rise

Kobbie Mainoo was the breakout star at Manchester United in the 2023/24 season. The Red Devils have a rich history of giving academy graduates regular first-team minutes whenever the opportunities present themselves. And like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho before him, the teenage sensation took his chances with both hands.

The 19-year-old struggled with an ankle injury as the 2023/24 season began. However, the young midfield prospect hasn’t looked back since returning to action, amassing over 2,500 minutes of playing time in 35 appearances in all competitions, contributing five goals and three assists.

Mainoo’s progress at Manchester United this season has earned him his first England call-up. The Englishman made his debut for the Three Lions during the international break in March and will go to UEFA Euro 2024 this summer. Meanwhile, the young man’s gestures alerted several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.

Summer movement beckoning?

It’s no surprise that the European heavyweights want to sign Kobbie Mainoo in the summer transfer window. However, Manchester United will not entertain any bids to part with the England international in the coming weeks. Instead, they want to tie him down to a new contract.

Recent reports claim that talks between Mainoo and Manchester United have progressed. The latest update revealed an agreement in principle between the two sides. The new deal will see the 19-year-old wonderkid receive a huge pay rise as he has agreed a £80,000-a-week wage deal.

However, Mainoo will not sign his new contract before returning from England’s UEFA Euro 2024 campaign. However, Manchester United fans will be delighted at the prospect of the Englishman extending his stay at Old Trafford.
