Tosin Adarabioyo compared to Jamaal Lascelles and former Leeds defender

It’s been a slow news day for Chelsea fans so far – but there is some interesting transfer news.

The Blues appear to have stolen a march on Newcastle and managed to sign 26-year-old Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer. Fabrizio Romano announced today that the deal is in the “final stage” and that the Fulham defender will be the first signing of the new coach Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea may have lost Thiago Silva this summer, but they still have Wesley Fofana, Axel Disasi, Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill on their books. Where does Tosin fit in?

Well, the group above is not quite as complete as it seems. Chalobah is expected to go, Fofana can’t be relied upon as he has had three serious injuries in a row, then Badiashile and Disasi have not been consistently brilliant when called upon.

There’s no doubt that Levi Colwill looks top notch, but even he’s only entering his third top season and isn’t an established superstar yet.

The numbers behind Tosin’s signing

A look at Tosin’s stats on FBref shows what kind of player he is. His aerial duels per game won are very good, as are his passing stats. These are the areas where they really excel. We can see him working well alongside Colwill, who has similar strengths, but equally the two could be seen as two alternatives, with Badiashile and Disasi providing the pairing on the other side.

FBRef’s player comparison feature puts the likes of Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles and ex-Leeds defender Robin Kock as equivalents – although a move to a stronger team should mean Tosin has the chance to improve his stats this season and to find some bigger names on the comparison list. over one year.
