Matt Peet shared his thoughts after Wigan Warriors’ 19-18 win over Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Reflecting on the win, Peet said: “I’m glad to get the two points in the end as there were times when it looked like we might not get the win. I was a little bit weaker but that was credit to Warrington for making it so competitive. I had a feeling the game wasn’t going to be straightforward as I knew Warrington would compete with their young players.”

Peet heaped praise on the club’s younger players, including Jacob Douglas, who made his Betfred Super League debut in the win: “Jacob was good, Zach (Eckersley) was good, Junior (Nsemba) aged 19 years old, and Brad (O’) Neill), who is still only 20 years old. Warrington also had some outstanding players so overall it was a good game for British rugby league.”

Of Eckersley, who made his second Betfred Super League start, Peet said: “We’re all aware of what Zach is capable of because he’s been knocking on the door in terms of how he’s been training. I wasn’t surprised to see him have a good game and I was pleased with his try-saving tackle.”

Adam Keighran was sent off in the second half and on his red card, Peet said: “Every time you go on the pitch you know there’s a chance you won’t play the next week, but that’s why the teams are designed the way they are and why . you practice as you do. If it results in a suspension I will be very disappointed with Adam, but as far as the team is concerned, we will go faster.”

Looking ahead to the week ahead, Peet said, “Regardless of what happened today, it’s always going to be moving on quickly. Whatever challenges come up this week, we’re going to be excited about it.”

Wigan Warriors face Warrington Wolves in the Betfred Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium next Saturday (June 8). Tickets for the Final remain available to purchase at The Brick Community Stadium and online HERE.
