The Liverpool star gives new boss Arne Slot a much-needed transfer boost

“I’m focused on the pitch and the Euros. I don’t even think about it. I have two years left on my contract, I’m happy at Liverpool, so my head is there. I’m French. I hear that PSG is interested, fine, but that doesn’t make me ” neither hot nor cold,” he told RMC Sport.

“I haven’t had a conversation with them or who I’m really focused on on the pitch, well do the fans want to see me come on? They’ll have to show me, I’m not very careful! It makes a bit of sense because I was born in France and in Paris.

“I have six older brothers and the six of them support PSG I think, at least four or five at least we watched a lot of games together, they already took me back to the stadium younger before I went to the training center. There’s a little bit of the PSG story, but I did mine, where I played at Sochaux, then Leipzig before Liverpool, so I’m happy.

Konate’s comments will serve as a much-needed boost for Slot, who have seen Matip leave the club. With Joe Gomez also pushing for game time, it remains to be seen whether the centre-back position will be strengthened this summer.

If Konate stays, that would free up money for Slot and Liverpool’s recruitment chiefs to strengthen other areas of the squad. Slot has already seen a defender calling for an exit in Sepp van de Berg.

“I knew I couldn’t go from PEC Zwolle (directly) to Liverpool’s first team. I could have been at Liverpool for one or two more years, but I wanted to play to the best of my ability. I asked to be (on loan) out,” he told De Telegraaf.

“Each time, because I felt I was getting better and better. I also made big steps physically. I understood that I will not play Van Dijk, Matip or Konate out (the team). But I thought that I can be right behind her.

“When I didn’t have another chance, I said, ‘Guess what, I want to go.’ You (Liverpool) have not exuded confidence in me all this time, but you want to hinder my future. I want to keep playing every week and keep developing.”
