‘Soon’… Leeds United player drops future hint after Ally McCoist predicts he will leave club

Leeds United are expected to sell a number of key players this summer, but one of their mainstays under Daniel Farke has dropped a hint at his future with an Instagram post.

Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and others are expected to attract interest ahead of the summer window. Jon Newsome predicted the two, along with Ethan Ampadu and Dan James, could leave.

Paraag Marathe has indicated that the 49ers need to sell a few players to balance the balance sheet, with Summerville’s Championship Player of the Season most likely to leave Elland Road.

But there is also a sense of concern over the future of Georginio Rutter, who has become a favorite at Leeds after a difficult first six months. He was involved in 26 goals for Leeds in the 2023–24 campaign.

The Frenchman was on a tear at Wembley when Leeds were beaten in the Championship play-off final and with Leeds failing to get promoted, there were fears that Rutter could be tempted away to pastures new.

Rutter took to Instagram, however, after remaining silent on his social media channels since Southampton beat Leeds for a third time in the 2023-24 campaign.

Georginio Rutter hints at Leeds future with Instagram post

Leeds, of course, will be desperate to keep hold of the likes of Rutter and Archie Gray. Fans expect to lose the likes of Summerville and Gnonto and possibly one or two others, but losing Gray or Rutter is a blow.

Not because they are better than Summerville or Gnonto, but because they are fan favourites. Marathe didn’t completely shut the door when asked recently about a possible sale of Gray.

But Rutter appeared to rule out any potential exit from Elland Road in an Instagram post, telling fans he would “see us soon”. Certainly suggesting he will be staying in Yorkshire this summer.

He said: “Hello Leeds fans, it’s been a few days but just as disappointing, the target was not reached despite a superb season where each and every one of us gave it our all. Thank you for your support throughout the year, see you soon. ITV.”

Ally McCoist recently predicted that Rutter would leave Leeds

Speaking last week, Rangers and Scotland legend McCoist discussed the Hoffenheim signing’s future and said he could see Rutter joining a top-six Premier League side, such is his quality.

McCoist said he believes Rutter is capable of joining a top-six team: “I’m not sure he’ll be a top-six, but I can see him going into the Premier League. Whether Leeds have to sell is a different matter.”

But it looks like Rutter could be staying put and with there being a lack of reports suggesting any interest in him, it could be a sign that the Frenchman could remain the club’s attacking midfielder next season.
