Gang escapes on bikes after man shot in ‘targeted attack’

A gang of black-clad men on bicycles fled the scene of a shooting after a man was shot in the leg in a “targeted attack”.

Merseyside Police confirmed that a man in his 30s was shot on Ormonde Crescent, Kirkby, at around 9pm yesterday, Saturday 1 June. The victim presented to the hospital for treatment for a leg injury and is currently in serious but stable condition. Officers remain at the scene and an investigation has been launched into the incident, with CCTV and witness inquiries ongoing.




A force spokesman said a group of men, riding bicycles and wearing black clothing, were on Ormonde Crescent in the minutes before the shooting and then fled the scene along Mintor Road and then towards Simonswood Lane. The spokesman added that anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information about what happened is asked to contact Merseyside Police.

Chief Inspector Paul Rannard said: “While we are in the early stages of our investigation as we seek to establish why the incident took place and who was involved, we believe this was a targeted attack. Fortunately the man’s injuries are not life-threatening…but I understand this is a shocking incident for the local community and they will understandably be concerned about what happened tonight.

“We have a large police presence in the area not only to carry out the initial stages of the investigation but also to provide reassurance to the community. We are appealing to anyone who was in the area around 8.30-9pm and witnessed the incident. contact Merseyside Police. Similarly, if you have seen a group of men in the area cycling during this period, please let us know again.

“I would also ask if you could check your CCTVs, dashcams or doorbell recordings and if you see anything suspicious please get in touch.

The officer added: “There is no place for guns on the streets of Merseyside and we will do everything in our power to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. My message to those involved in gun crime and serious organized crime is clear – Merseyside Police we will never rest, we are relentless in our pursuit of those involved.

“Information from the public is vital if we are to dismantle the organized crime groups that bring misery to our streets and I would appeal to anyone with information to come forward.”
