Closures planned as eight roads in Leicester undergo repairs

A series of road closures will hit the streets of Leicester next month. Eight roads are set for repair and resurfacing work, Leicester City Council has announced.

The roads will be closed in both directions, with parking restrictions and diversions in place while their repairs are completed, the authority added. Work will begin on Monday, June 3 and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

The local authority stated that the project is being carried out on “streets where the road surface has become worn, cracked or broken over time due to wear and tear caused by traffic and the effects of winter weather”.

Restoration work will begin in Cotton Close, Rushey Mead, on Monday, June 3, over one day, costing £17,500, the council said. Then Duncombe Road, in Beaumont Leys, will have £75,000 of work carried out on it, starting on Tuesday, June 4, and scheduled for four days.

Work on Frederick Road in Spinney Hills will then start on Sunday June 9 and will also take four days at a cost of £60,000. Next up will be Samson Road, in Newfoundpool, with work starting on Thursday 13 June. These will take two days at a cost of £30,000.

Work in Gamel Road, Evington, will follow on Monday June 17, closing for four days, with an investment of £55,000. Finally, Knighton Fields Road East – including parts of Morris Road and Kingsley Street – will be closed from Sunday June 23 for six days, with the work costing £80,000.

All the work is funded from the council’s annual highways maintenance budget. In total, almost 7,000 square meters of the city’s road network are to be repaired.
