A38M live as police incident closes road in both directions near M6 Spaghetti Junction

Motorists are being warned to ‘expect delays’ as a major Birmingham route is closed amid a police incident. Traffic officers from the Central Motorway Policing Group would be handling the incident on the A38M.

Images of the scene this morning appear to show a police car blocking the route, with red crosses marking lane closures. Motorists have been advised of the closure between the M6, J6 for Spaghetti Junction and Dartmouth Circus from 7.20am today, Sunday 2 June.




National Highways has urged anyone traveling today to “plan ahead”. They took to X, ex-Twitter, to warn: “The A38M is CLOSED IN BOTH DIRECTIONS between #M6 J6 #SpaghettiJunction and #DartmouthCircus due to an incident led by CMPG.

We are still awaiting confirmation of the nature of the incident from West Midlands Police but hope to have answers soon. The A38M underpass at Dartmouth Circus, near Matalan, remains closed by police. Traffic is diverted across the island and does not appear to be blocked or heavy.

However, the A38M heading towards the M6 ​​is closed to no traffic in or out of the city. The exact nature of the incident is currently unknown.

When is the A38M closure expected to go away?

National Highways has warned that the M6 ​​southbound exit at J6 for the A38M has been closed in both directions since early this morning following a police incident.

They say this is due to a ‘previous accident’, although full details have yet to be confirmed by West Midlands Police. The closure and associated delays are expected to be in place for several more hours.

Normal traffic conditions are expected to return around 1.45pm and 2pm, National Highways says.
