Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass makes a hilarious dig at Rotherham United

Under Xisco Munoz, the Owls couldn’t buy a win. But under Danny Rohl, they won 16 in all competitions and ultimately finished the season 20th in the table, on 53 points and three points above the drop zone.

Meanwhile, Rotherham finished bottom with 27 points; In the end, with 23 points, the Millers were the first team that Sheffield Wednesday beat in the 2023/24 season.

And after the Championship final which saw the Owls complete their great escape under Rohl with Windass on the scoresheet, the Wednesday striker made a comical take on the Millers’ form.

Rotherham United won just five league games in 2023/24 and lost a further 29, consigning them to relegation after a two-year spell in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday did the double against Rotherham, both games without conceding as well.

And speaking of the maximum number of points needed to stay in the Championship this season, Windass explained to the Official EFL Podcast that the teams have taken six points from Rotherham over the course of the campaign.

Windass joked: “That’s only because everyone took six points from Rotherham, that’s why. They’re usually only 42 or 43, but they all beat them, so they got 50.”

What’s next for Josh Windass at Sheffield Wednesday

Windass is one of those out of contract this summer and after his strong finish to the season where he scored in each of his last three games, Sheffield Wednesday have every reason to offer him a new deal.

And the latest suggestions are that Wednesday and Windass are in talks over a potential new deal and so it looks like the striker will stay for at least another year.

Rohl was apparently keen to keep him earlier in the campaign and Windass has since shown why he is so highly thought of and so valuable at Championship level.

He has come up with the goods at the right time for Sheffield Wednesday, with his owls and his recent documentary showing his side of the ground and his love for the Owls.

If Sheffield Wednesday can secure a new deal for Windass then it will be a very positive first move in terms of contracts, with plenty to sort out for Rohl and co.
