Recap as Leicestershire lanes of M1 closed due to incident – updates

Two lanes were closed on a stretch of the M1 in Leicestershire this morning after a vehicle fire. Traffic monitor INRIX reported that the incident happened on the M1 southbound between J20 for Lutterworth and J19 Catthorpe Interchange.


Footage from the route showed traffic increasing on the road. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said a car towing a caravan was involved in the fire.

Traffic tracker INRIX reports that one lane has been reopened on the M1 southbound this afternoon following a car fire. He said traffic continues to back up in the area.

Crews still on scene

A fire service spokesman said crews were still at the scene “dousing” the blaze. They said the suspected cause of the fire was a “mechanical failure”. Congestion continues to be reported in the area.

Firefighters say a car tow trailer is involved

A spokesman for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the incident involved a car towing a caravan. They said the service received “multiple calls” after the incident was first reported at 10.52am. Fire crews from Lutterworth and Central Station were called to the scene. No injuries were reported.
