Chelsea are now eyeing a move for the 6ft 4inch player, Enzo Maresca really want someone like him

Enzo Maresca seems to have clarified what he needs to be a success at Chelsea.

Following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure last month, Enzo Maresca is set to replace the Argentine as Chelsea manager.

The 44-year-old is quickly on the way out of Leicester City after only joining them last summer.

However, he managed to earn him promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

He is now set to join Chelsea and already knows where he wants to strengthen.

What does Enzo Maresca want?

According to the Daily Mirror, Maresca wants a shot stopper in goal at Chelsea.

As a result, the Blues are now considering a move for Alvaro Valles from Las Palmas.

Chelsea only signed Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez from New England Revolution and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively last summer.

However, it is clear that the club and Maresca feel that another No.1 is needed.

It will now be interesting to see whether or not Chelsea make a move for Valles.

Alvaro Valles’ statistics this season

This season, the average length of Valles’ passes was 27.3 meters, which was one of the shortest in La Liga, according to FBref.

It shows the 6ft 4in keeper isn’t looking for the longest ball and is instead trying to find a teammate who isn’t too far away.

Valles also had a 74.3% save percentage, showing that he wasn’t the worst stopper in the division either.

He has the height, then, playmaking ability and decent shot-stopping skills it seems.

Whether it’s Valles or someone else, it looks like Chelsea will sign a new goalkeeper this summer, and that would obviously be bad news for Petrovic and Sanchez. Maresca won’t be able to keep all three happy, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see one of them leave before the transfer window closes.
