Who will replace Ten Hag?

After turning their fortunes around last season with, er, a Carabao Cup trophy and a top-four finish, the wheels seem to have come off Erik ten Hag at Manchester United and after the 4-0 defeat away to Crystal Palace , Erik tan. The Hag’s days at Old Trafford are showing numbers.

The only consolation for their terrible season is that they reached the FA Cup final, although a penalty shoot-out victory was needed after United conceded a 3-0 lead to Championship side Coventry.

The Red Devils will now face arch-rivals Manchester City in what will be a repeat of last year’s final – but will ten Hag still have a job by then?

Many were fed up after the embarrassing performance against Coventry and called for a change. Then came a 1-1 draw at home to Burnley, followed by that 4-0 defeat away to the Eagles, and more voices joined the call for change.

With pressure mounting on the not-so-flying Dutchman, we asked our traders to look at the next Manchester United manager’s chances of who could replace him.

Here are the latest runners and riders.

Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season after a disastrous league campaign.

The fact that he would be available for nothing could appeal to Manchester United, he also has Premier League experience and is a Champions League winning manager.

England coach Gareth Southgate is set for another big summer as he looks to finally lead the Three Lions to a tournament win on the international stage.

He has been at the helm since 2018 and is likely to step down at the end of the Euros, regardless of the result. Could Old Trafford be his next destination?

Graham Potter he only lasted six months at Chelsea after his move from Brighton and his reputation will have taken a hit as a result. However, the Stamford Bridge side were a basket case and it felt like more players had arrived than the club scored at the time.

Julian Nagelsmann he was dropped by Bayern Munich last year and replaced by Thomas Tuchel. He is now the manager of the German national team, but would that prevent him from doing double duty in Manchester?

He is a young and progressive manager, but is that what United need? Or do the Old Trafford hierarchy want a manager who can win silverware now?

Roberto De Zerbi he did a fantastic job at Brighton, his team secured a place in Europe last season. The Italian has been linked with numerous clubs across Europe, with his stock rising since taking charge at Brighton. Could the Seagulls fend off interest from big suitors? Or will De Zerbi jump ship like Graham Potter?

The manager of Sporting Lisbon Reuben Amorim he is also on the list to take over at Old Trafford.

The 38-year-old has masterminded Sporting’s victories over English sides in Europe and his stock as a young boss is high.

Amorim led the Lisbon club to their first title in just under 20 years during his first full season in charge. Could he do the same at Old Trafford?

Roberto De Zerbi Brighton

More of an ego manager than a football manager. Zinedine Zidane he feels at the level of boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has been very successful at Real Madrid. He was less effective in his second spell there, but could do well with United’s bottomless resources and star names. He could still hold out for the French national team or the PSG job.

The former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui he left Molineux last summer and is looking for his next role. He is said to be keen on another job in the Premier League.

He has managed Real Madrid and the Spain national team so has been in charge in pressure situations – is he the right man for United?

Brentford haven’t been great this season but Thomas Frank he is highly regarded for the work he has done in turning them from a Championship club to a Premier League regular.

Although an unlikely option, it would be interesting to see how he would fare at a bigger club.

If the best people at Old Trafford want to appoint a manager who is available to start work immediately, then the former Germany boss Hans Shake it’s free.

Despite things going from bad to worse with the national team, Flick led Bayern Munich to a treble, including the Champions League in 2019/20.
