Missing 14-year-old girl ‘ran off to meet Snapchat boyfriend’ as police search continues

Missing schoolgirl Caitlin Wright ran off to meet a secret ‘boyfriend’ she met on Snapchat, her distraught mother has said.

She also claimed the teenager could be held against her will.

Police are “very concerned” for Caitlin’s safety after the search for the 14-year-old went into a second day.

Caitlin was last seen near Primark in Burton town center at 11.30am on Sunday.

Caitlin is believed to have traveled to Birmingham, 48 miles away, and Derbyshire Police are appealing for information on her whereabouts.

Her mum Claire Keight, 37, said: “On Sunday morning we both got up early and she asked me to transfer her £37 Christmas money into her account, which I did .

“When we went into town she took out £30 in cash and left. All we know is that he took a train to Birmingham.

“Her friends told us she met a boy around her age on Snapchat and was going to run away with him.

“He has £7 in his account and is in Birmingham. We have no idea where she is or who she is with. We don’t even know if she is being held against her will.

“Suffers from anxiety and panic attacks.”

She continued: “We get all these details drip from friends or her kids.

“I actually found out the name of the boy she was supposed to meet and called him.

“He was just a child and he confirmed that he knew where she was, but he didn’t say if he met her.

“Her friends said she was going to Birmingham to run off with this online boyfriend we didn’t know anything about.”

She added: “We’re all freaking out and I’m just crying all the time.

“Caitlin has never done anything like this before. He is a good child and we had a very nice Christmas. I just want her home safe.”

Caitlin is from Swadlincote, a town five miles from Burton.

She is described as white, of medium build, with long blonde hair.

He was wearing a red, white, and blue hoodie, black sweatpants, a black bandana as a headband, and white sneakers. Caitlin also wears a black nose ring.

Anyone with information is asked to call the force on 101, quoting reference number 682 of December 29.
