Arne Slot starts with a transfer plan as the Liverpool video strategy emerges

Liverpool are looking towards a bright future as Arne Slot begins his first week in charge of the club.

The Dutchman was appointed as the Reds’ new head coach a day after the Premier League season ended. It was no surprise given his predecessor Jurgen Klopp led Anfield in pro-Slot chants less than 24 hours before the announcement.

However, Slot steps into the role with the support of Klopp and the Liverpool fan base. In the ECHO’s latest look at the media headlines, it appears the 45-year-old has let go at Anfield.

Arne Slot identified the target before starting work

According to CaughtOffside, Slot was quick to discuss Liverpool targets even before he started working for the club. And the report claims that Feyenoord centre-forward Santiago Gimenez has been mooted as a player who could compete in the Premier League.

The Mexican has scored 26 goals in 41 appearances this campaign, but it is unclear whether he will be a target for the Reds this summer.

What the ECHO says: Whether or not Slot decides to target his former striker in the summer, it is encouraging to see that he was making and discussing plans for Liverpool even before he took the job. This no doubt impressed FSG in their discussions and convinced them to sign the Dutchman. It’s important to hit the ground running when starting a job of this magnitude, and reports like this suggest that Slot is doing just that.

Arne Slot compared to Jurgen Klopp

In an interview with Liverpool’s official website, former Reds goalkeeper and Slot’s teammate at Sparta Rotterdam, Sander Westerveld, explained why he knew the Dutchman was ideal to be the German’s successor. He said: “The minute I heard Arne’s name (linked), I was like, ‘yeah, that’s the perfect fit.’

“Over the years, people talk about Arne in Holland and always compare him to Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp. He always showed Liverpool clips during training sessions and analyzing games. He showed Liverpool clips on how to play. He he plays in a similar style. It has been well documented how he plays, what he wants in a team”.

What the ECHO says: It’s no secret that Slott plays a similar style of football to Klopp, but perhaps it wasn’t clear how ingrained his knowledge of Liverpool is. The discovery that their new manager used to show clips of his old team Liverpool certainly helps to ease any fears that Slot won’t be able to adapt to the way this set of players want to play. Having a familiar understanding of the approach that best suits the current Reds squad is a positive.
