Heart of the Cornwall Women’s County Championship

Cornwall Women missed out on a place at Twickenham as they lost to Durham in the semi-final of the County Championship.

The hosts scored three tries in the last 16 minutes to win 25-17 in the Gill Burns Cup Division Two tie.

Tries by Tia Larson, Joey Sandercock and Becky Bennett gave Duke a 17-10 lead with 20 minutes remaining.

But the hosts proved too strong in the latter part of the game as they ran in three unconverted tries to clinch the final and a chance of promotion to the top flight.

Cornwall will remain in the second tier for the third consecutive year after winning Division Three of the County Championship in 2022.
