Matt Peet apologizes to Adam Keighran with Wigan Warriors to consider appeal

Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has apologized to Adam Keighran for his post-match comments following his red card – admitting the club will consider an appeal if the center is charged.

Keighran was sent off in the Warriors’ win over Challenge Cup Final opponents Warrington Wolves at the weekend for a high tackle on Wire youngster Aaron Lindop. The Australian was dismissed for making direct contact with the head and now faces a nervous wait to discover whether he will be free to feature in Saturday’s final, with the match review committee meeting today.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Peet said Keighran should be “disappointed in his actions”, but upon reflection and further viewing of the incident, the Warriors head coach apologized to his player and believes he could not have prevented what happened it happened. .

Speaking to Rugby League Live, Peet said: “Looking at me, I don’t think Adam can do much. Junior (Nsemba) is the first and if you follow Adam, he doesn’t do anything bad really. Aaron falls after the initial tackle and unfortunately he is down to the ground as Adam speeds away.

“Adam worked on this tackling technique and that’s why I was the way I was after the game. But I got it wrong and that’s the main reason I called him today to apologize. What I said after the game was torn off.”

Wigan will now consider their options once the match review panel delivers its findings, with Peet not convinced Keighran will receive a ban.

“First, we’re going to see if there’s a fee,” Peet said. “There was a tackle in our game against Leigh which is very comparable.”
