Tribute to heartbroken family as dad dies outside pub and Coventry man arrested

A Coventry man has been arrested after a father-of-two died outside a pub after being hit by a Ford Fiesta and a Honda. It happened outside The Greyhound near Oxford.

Police said the man was crossing the road when he was hit by a Ford Fiesta and a Honda FR-V on the A420 outside The Greyhound in Besselsleigh. It happened at 10 pm on Wednesday (May 29).



Tragically, the 37-year-old man died at the scene, Thames Valley Police said. His next of kin have been informed and are currently being supported.

A 60-year-old Coventry man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has since been released under investigation, Thames Valley Police said.

Police have since named the man who died as father-of-two John Foyle. He was described as a “dearest” son, husband and father to sons Oscar and Louis.

In a statement, loved ones said: “John was the most loved and loving son, brother, husband and father to his most precious sons Oscar and Louis. He was loved by all his family, close friends and colleagues and all who knew and loved him.

“We would like to thank everyone who was with John at the scene to try and save him.” Detective Sergeant Darren Brown, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Sadly, as a result of this collision, a man has died and the thoughts of everyone at Thames Valley Police are with his family at this extremely difficult time annoying “

He added: “I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this collision to get in touch. I am particularly looking to hear from anyone who may have been driving in the area and has a dash cam that captured the collision or the moments leading up to it.
