Coventry man named and charged after taxi driver ‘violently attacked’

A man has been charged after a taxi driver was ‘violently’ attacked in Coventry. It follows an incident on Bennetts Road South in Keresley.

Police said the driver picked up a 40-year-old man from Coventry Station and drove to Bennetts Road South. Artur Nowostawski allegedly attacked the alleged victim, punching him in the back and chest several times and demanding money, according to West Midlands Police.

Fortunately, the driver managed to escape after the incident on Monday, April 29, but was left with arm and chest injuries, West Midlands Police added. He is now recovering after receiving treatment for his injuries.

Artur Nowostawski, from Coventry, has been charged with wounding, attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon, West Midlands Police said. He has been remanded in custody since his arrest on Monday, May 6.

Nowostawski, 40, is accused of the “violent” attack. He is due at Coventry Magistrates’ Court this morning, Thursday May 9.
