Nuneaton school has issued a ‘lockdown’ at home amid concerns for pupil safety

Pupils have been stopped from leaving a Nuneaton school amid concerns for their safety. It happened at Nuneaton Academy yesterday afternoon (May 8).

The school has issued a message to parents and carers to explain why pupils are not allowed to leave the site at home. It said there was a “slight delay in the exit procedure” for the “safety of all students”.

There are no details about the incident, but the message said the school was asking people in the area to help police. It states that they need to identify “two persons who were seen riding a motorcycle/scooter near the academy”.

Warwickshire Police confirmed officers were called to the school just before 3.15pm yesterday. A spokesman said: “This was a report of two men riding up and down the road on scrambler bikes outside the school.

“There was concern because it was the time when students were returning home. At 15.20 it was reported that the bikes had left.

“We have spoken to the school and we will have officers at the school today at closing time to provide reassurance.” CoventryLive also contacted United Learning, who now run the school.
