Gretar Steinsson is a big fan of the out-of-contract striker, he wants him at Leeds United this summer

Gretar Steinsson is among those leading Leeds United’s recruitment charge this summer.

Following the full takeover of the club 11 months ago, 49ers Enterprises have been working hard to build a proper structure behind the scenes at Elland Road.

Under previous boss Andrea Radrizzani, Victor Orta was effectively a one-man band when it came to getting in and out of the club.

However, this is a decision that Leeds have come to realize was a mistake, so in the months since their purchase was completed, several appointments have been made to strengthen the recruitment department.

Nick Hammond was the first to arrive last June, initially on a temporary deal. However, he impressed so much that he was handed a longer-term deal.

Steinsson then followed towards the end of the summer and played a key role in bringing Joel Piroe to Leeds, with Jordan Miles then completing the trio earlier this year.

Steinsson wants to move for Sheffield United’s Daniel Jebbison

Those in the recruiting department certainly have their hands full this summer, with plenty of work expected on both the incoming and outgoing side.

After failing to win promotion, Leeds admitted that key players would have to leave, but Paraag Marathe promised that funds would be available to replace them.

And the free agent market could certainly be a place where they look to strengthen the squad, with plenty of bargains out there, including Sheffield United’s Daniel Jebbison.

Speaking exclusively to LeedsUnited.Newstransfer insider Graeme Bailey confirmed that Steinsson is a big fan of Jebbison, who is under contract at Bramall Lane this month.

Bailey says that while there is a lot of interest in the young forward, Leeds are looking to bring him in as someone who fits what Steinsson wants this summer.

He said: “He’s the kind of player Gretar Steinsson wants. Young, physical, something different from what they have in the squad, obviously youth. It would be a good deal, he’s only young.

“It would be a trade-off to play, but it wouldn’t be very expensive in terms of actual market value. It’s a good deal on all fronts really if they can get over the line. It would be a decent shot because there is a lot of interest in him.”

Who is Leeds target Daniel Jebbison?

Jebbison is still only 20 and as Bailey mentioned, Leeds would have to pay a compensation fee if they were to win the race.

Due to injury, Jebbison was only able to make one appearance for the Blades last season as he came off the bench on the final day of the season to play 20 minutes in the defeat to Tottenham.

The previous season, Jebbison scored one goal in five starts as Sheffield United won promotion to the Premier League.

Jebbison really made a name for himself aged just 17 in the 2020/21 campaign when he marked his full Premier League and Blades debut with the winning goal at Everton. He also had a loan spell at Burton Albion where he scored nine in 23 appearances.
