Aston Freeway crash victim called family’s lives ‘shattered’

The heartbroken family of a man killed in an Aston Freeway crash have paid tribute to the “baby of our family”. Ryan Sandhu died after a three-car pile-up shortly after midnight on Sunday, June 2.

The 21-year-old, who lived in the city centre, remained in a critical condition but nothing could be done to save him. He was confirmed dead at the scene.




His devastated family paid tribute to Ryan, saying he was “loved by everyone”. They said their lives had been “shattered” by his loss.

In a statement, they said: “In loving memory of Ryan Sandhu, 21 years old and our family’s brightest light. His infectious humor and playful spirit made him the heart and soul of our family.

“As the baby of our family, Ryan was loved beyond words by each of us. Beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, our lives have been forever shattered by his loss. He will be missed more than words can express.”

Two men, aged 24 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and bailed pending further enquiries.

A man and a woman were evaluated and released at the scene with minor injuries. West Midlands Police said: “We have looked at CCTV and dash cam footage but are keen to hear from anyone with information that can help our investigation.”
