Hamer, 36, sees his contract at Watford officially expire at the end of the month and has yet to put pen to paper on an extension, meaning he will become a free agent as things stand. The Hornets landed him in 2022 and he has played 22 games since then.

In this latest update on his situation from reporter Staton on X, he is expected to link up with the Owls ahead of the next campaign.

The goalkeeper has extensive experience in the Football League and has made just under 400 appearances in his career to date.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Hamer began his career at Reading and rose through the Berkshire side’s academy ranks before making five first-team appearances, as well as having loan spells away to Crawley Town, Brentford and Exeter City to gain some experience. his belt

He then had permanent stints at Charlton Athletic and Leicester City, before the latter sent him to both Nottingham Forest and Bristol City on a temporary basis.

Huddersfield Town gave him a switch to the Premier League in 2018 and he made seven starts for the Terriers in the top flight.

Derby County and Swansea City then came calling before Watford landed him, but he is now on Sheffield Wednesday’s radar as they prepare for Rohl’s first full campaign at the helm.

The Owls ended last term with Brighton loanee James Beadle between the sticks, but it remains to be seen whether he will return to South Yorkshire.

Cameron Dawson is out of contract in a few weeks so the club will need reinforcements between the sticks.

Hamer might not be the first choice, especially if another target ends up coming, but he would be a useful player to have in and around the dressing room.
