Steve Bruce has made a request for Leicester to sign me as they begin their search for a new manager.

The Foxes are currently without a manager after Enzo Maresca left to join Chelsea on a five-year deal.

Maresca’s departure came after just one season at the club, having guided them back to the Premier League after finishing top of the Championship.

Bruce has thrown his hat into the ring and says he would take the Leicester job if offered, claiming it would be a “wonderful opportunity”.

The 63-year-old told talkSPORT: “A points deduction wouldn’t let me down. Leicester, you know where I am! I mean, what a wonderful opportunity it is all of a sudden.

“You know, they might have a few problems but Leicester have been a great club for the last few years, of course the fairy tale won the Premier League a few years ago.”

Bruce has been out of work since being sacked by West Brom in October 2022 after a dismal spell at The Hawthorns, with the Baggies in the Championship relegation zone at the time of his departure.

The former Manchester United defender has managed 12 different clubs since starting his coaching career at Sheffield United in 1998, with Bruce managing both Birmingham City and Hull City in the Premier League on two separate occasions.

After being out of charge for almost two years, Bruce says he would be open to being number two or roles away from the touchline.

– I’m looking to do something. I mean I’ve had a year off now, he said.

“Either leading or working alongside someone. Or I’d like to think that if a president asked me a question about football, I’d like to give him an answer.

“I’ve been in (football) for a long time. But I’ve had a long winter in this country without work, and so doing something is the next step.

During his 24-year managerial career, Bruce managed more than 1,000 games, winning 384 of the 1,032 matches he took over for a winning percentage of 37.2.
