Hapless thief caught after CCTV captured his every move in burglary

Leon Tyler didn’t know that when he walked into a house in Nuneaton, his every move was caught on camera. In fact, the footage, which shows him climbing through a window into the kitchen of the Gun Hill home, led police to catch him.

He was caught on CCTV camera going through the window. He then looked around the kitchen before going into the rest of the house, returning to check the window to make sure he wasn’t being watched.

He went on to steal £4,000 worth of tools. After police received footage of the April 3 burglary, an officer saw him two weeks later.

He was riding his bicycle near his house in Ryder Row. Tyler was wearing the same gray hoodie and black cargo pants from the CCTV footage. When officers searched his home, they found shoes that matched those he was wearing in the CCTV footage.

In the interview, Tyler admitted the crime, saying he sold the stolen items for £300 to fund his alcohol addiction. At Warwick Crown Court last week, he was jailed for 874 days after admitting the burglary.

Detective Constable Abbie Harlock from Warwickshire Police’s Organized Crime and Interest Team said: “We know the significant impact that burglary has on people and I hope this sentence provides reassurance that we are working to bring criminals to justice and the courts I take these types of crimes seriously. .”
