Family fun expected ahead of Menheniot Cherry Fayre

ONE of the biggest occasions in a south-east Cornwall village’s social calendar is almost here, with locals and visitors getting ready to descend.

Saturday 15th June is the date in the calendar when the Menheniot Cherry Fayre is the must-see event for traditional family fun and a good day out for all.

The events leading up to the main occasion have already taken place, with a fun-filled, old-school duck race providing the curtain raiser and a fairy fundraiser.

During the event, contestants raced rubber ducks, with the winner receiving £50 and five runners up receiving £10 each, with prizes donated by Adrenalin Quarry.

Participants and spectators also enjoyed tractor trailer rides from the corner of the cricket field to Courtneys Mill while enjoying food including cakes, sausage rolls, a bar and more.

However, with the duck race out of the way, the main event, the Menheniot Cherry Fayre is fast approaching. While weather participation can never be fully guaranteed, what is more likely to be anticipated is the fun factor the day will bring, much of which is free thanks to year-round fundraising by the volunteers who make the event happen. it happens .

The fundraiser is also supported by a number of local businesses supporting the event, with event participants including EG Fencing, Bateman and Lynch cars, WM Gregory Construction, Dunbia, Sweet Treats Shop, Peninsula Roofing and Peninsula Scaffolding.

Children will be invited to dress up for the occasion ahead of the carnival procession, which will start at 2.15pm, with participants asked to gather on the grounds at 2pm, with prizes available for the best costume, announced at 4.30pm, with the carnival it often offers a kaleidoscope of colors. The 2023 carnival included a number of categories such as best overall costume, best walking group, best float and best individual walking.

There will also be a bar, food stalls, local vendors selling their wares at a local market stall, a bouncy castle, children’s entertainment and a surfboard simulator.

The event will also feature a classic car show, an appearance by Chloe the Clown, a bag race, a mechanical organ playing music alongside live music in the evening and what organizers say will be “much, much more. ‘.

A spokesperson for the event said: “The bouncy castles are a one-off charge (£5 per child) and all-day access. Please purchase (tickets) from the tea and coffee box.

“We’ve been busy raising money this year to make sure we can keep as much free entertainment as possible for everyone to enjoy.”
