Tallahassee man sentenced to life in prison for fatal 2020 New Year’s Eve stabbing

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee man was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for a fatal New Year’s Eve 2020 stabbing.

Kaleb Sheffield received a life sentence in connection with the death of Matthew Williams. Sheffield was accused of killing Williams during an argument at a home on Huckabee Road on December 31, 2020.

Court documents revealed that on the day of the fatal incident in 2020, Williams walked alongside in an attempt to get help after being stabbed multiple times by Sheffield. However, Williams collapsed and died.

The day after the murder, court records accused Sheffield of breaking into Williams’ home and stealing his Chevy truck. Deputies saw Sheffield driving Williams’ pickup truck and arrested him after a short chase on Crawfordville Highway.

Sheffield’s conviction comes after he was found guilty of second-degree murder following a three-day trial in March. He originally faced a charge of first-degree murder.
