Leicester City could sell Danny Ward and Daniel Iverson

Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward ‘could’ be on the move this summer along with Daniel Iverson, according to a report from The Athletic.

Leicester City can cut ties with the stoppers following their promotion to the Premier League. They were promoted from the Championship along with Ipswich Town and play-off winners Southampton after winning the title under Enzo Maresca last term before his departure to Chelsea.

Ward, 30, has been on the books at the King Power Stadium since 2018 but has fallen out of favour. Iverson, meanwhile, spent the second half of last campaign on loan at Stoke City.

In this latest update on the pair by The Athletic, both could be sold permanently in the upcoming transfer window. Mads Hermansen was the Foxes’ number one last term after moving to England from Brøndby IF just over 12 months ago.

Ward has one year left on his contract at Leicester City until 2025.

According to a report in The Sun, Sheffield United were keen on him in January, but a move to South Yorkshire ultimately failed to materialise.

The Wales international, who has 40 caps to date, has come up through the youth ranks at Wrexham.

He was then snapped up by Liverpool in 2012 as a youngster, before having loan spells at Anfield to boost his development at Morecambe, Aberdeen and Huddersfield Town.

The Foxes signed him permanently six years ago and since then he has made 47 appearances in all competitions for them to date. However, he didn’t play at all for them last season under Maresca.

As for Iverson, he is also at Leicester City. The 26-year-old signed for them in 2016 from Esbjerg and has since made 17 first-team appearances.

He has also been sent to Oldham Athletic, Rotherham United, OH Leuven, Preston and Stoke City in the past to gain experience.

Cutting ties with both Ward and Iverson would help free up space and funds in the Foxes squad to bring in other targets as they prepare for life back in the top flight.

Their immediate focus, however, will be on finding the right manager.
