Jet2 is warning of major disruption at Manchester Airport ahead of the summer holidays

Passengers starting their summer holidays at Manchester Airport could face significant disruption due to planned motorway works.

An extensive overnight repair is to take place on the M56, prompting fears that people could be late for flights from Monday 10 June. The work will be carried out by National Motorways on both sides of the M56 between junction 4 and junction 7.




Now everyone with flights has been advised to plan for early arrivals. The airport said: “National Highways are carrying out essential resurfacing work overnight on both sides of the M56 between Junction 4 and Junction 7.”

They added: “Work is due to start on Monday 10 June 2024 and be completed by August 2024. The closures will take place between 9pm and 5am, Monday to Friday, and will extend until 7: 00 on Saturday. This will include a mix of full overnight closures and sliding closures.”

Diversion routes will be provided, although delays are anticipated regardless. Travelers have therefore been urged to allow extra time for their commutes and to keep abreast of specific closures and congestion via Traffic England.

Posting an update on the situation on its website, Jet2 said: “Manchester Airport – Roadworks until August 2024. We have been advised that roadworks between Junction 5 and 6 of the M56 from Monday 10 June are expected to be completed to the end. from August 2024.”

Warning against major closures of the M56 during this period, they advised customers to confirm details with National Highways and allow plenty of time to get to Manchester Airport as all Jet2.com flights are still set to operate as scheduled.
