Leeds United centre-back Joe Rodon has only been on loan at the club this season but the thought he won’t be around for next season after losing in the play-off final is a bitter pill to swallow.

As the weeks went by it became very clear to see that Leeds had one of the best defenders in the Championship in Joe Rodon.

Since joining in mid-August, he has been outstanding for Daniel Farke alongside Pascal Struijk, more recently partnered by Ethan Ampadu, and with the door seemingly closed on a return to the reckoning at Spurs, a permanent exit seems inevitable for the Wales international.

A blow for Leeds comes from the fact that they will not be able to offer them Premier League football next season after losing to Southampton in the play-off final.

Here, we look at how much the defender could cost Leeds if they are still looking to pursue a deal, and what his wages look like…

How much would Joe Rodon cost Leeds?

Athletic’s Phil Hay previously mentioned in an episode of The Square Ball podcast that Leeds’ initial attempts to land the defender saw Spurs demand £15m.

Leeds then agreed a loan deal for the defender, who entered the final two years of his contract in north London this season.

After a year at Elland Road, he has 12 months left on his contract, putting pressure on Daniel Levy to find the defender a permanent home, their last chance to cash in at a decent price.

Will Leeds be promoted next season?

Could Rodon cost more to Leeds or others?

Spurs don’t want Rodon, the player won’t want to stay and Leeds would have loved to have signed him, albeit not boasting top-flight football to make the deal a formality.

However, Hay also said his form could mean his value is currently higher than the £15m Leeds first quoted.

With his contract at the end of 12 months, Spurs will have to make a decision on cashing in – which looks the most likely event.

Having been part of the second-best defense in the Championship, there is sure to be PL interest in the 26-year-old, which represents a massive stumbling block to the Whites’ chances of retaining his services.

What are his wages?

According to Capology, Rodon’s verified salary while on loan at Leeds is surprisingly low for a ‘big six’ player as he earns around £9,615 a week.

That equates to £500,000 a year for Rodon.

It wouldn’t put Rodon as one of Leeds’ current top earners in the second tier, which could boost their chances of getting a deal done if they end up trying anyway despite their playoff mess .
