“I’m having another man’s baby with my husband’s blessing…it’s the best decision I’ve ever made”

A Bury woman is pregnant with another man’s baby after her husband gave her his blessing. Kylie Evans, 35, wanted a baby but was unable to have a baby with husband Mick, 63, who had a vasectomy 28 years before to meet.

Despite their 28-year age difference, the pair were determined to start a family and tried to conceive using a sperm donor who matched Mick’s looks through a clinic.

The couple spent around £6,000 on fertility treatment and required the donor to have similar physical features to Mick, such as his blue eyes and 5ft 7in height.

However, Kylie wasn’t ovulating properly and couldn’t get pregnant. Doctors said her BMI was too high to qualify for IVF. At her peak, she tipped the scales at 24 13lb and squeezed into a size 26 dress.

The couple then managed to save up for Kylie to undergo weight loss surgery, paying £7,000 for a gastric bypass in Latvia. After losing 13 stone, Kylie was delighted to fall pregnant naturally after being inseminated with donor sperm in October 2023.

Kylie is now 36 weeks pregnant and the couple are ‘over the moon’ to be expecting their son in July 2024. Kylie, a waitress, from Bury, Manchester, said: ‘Mick was more than happy to use a donor of sperm.

“The clinic helped us choose one that matched his appearance – hair color, eyes and height. You don’t see a photo, but you get a description.

“The weight loss surgery completely changed my life, I wouldn’t have a baby with it. We can’t wait to be parents.”

Kylie said she was “always on the bigger side, but really started to put on weight in her late teens.” She was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) – a condition that affects ovulation.

Kylie believes this contributed to the weight gain, as well as working two jobs – a coffee shop during the day and an Italian restaurant during the evening.

She said: “Italians love to feed you – and I couldn’t say no. Picking up pizza and pasta all evening when I was working. Then I would come with leftovers and eat food all night long”.

Kylie met her age-gap husband Mick when he was a customer at the pub where she worked in 2008. The pair spent six years trying to conceive with “no progress”.

She added: “A sperm donor was the cheapest way and it doesn’t matter to us how the baby is made. We knew we would love them no matter what.”

“I was getting old and it was time of crisis for me. If I didn’t lose weight, it would be too late to have a baby.”

The couple went to work, saving money for Kylie to undergo weight loss surgery abroad. It took them nearly eight months to save £7,000, but in January 2022, Kylie finally had the procedure.

She said: “We worked two jobs, seven days a week and managed to save money. Mick came with me and he was absolutely amazing. The nurses were great and everything went very smoothly.”

While ovulating again, Kylie tried again using a sperm donor and artificial insemination in October 2023. To their delight, Kylie had a positive pregnancy test in November 2023 and the couple learned they were expecting a boy .

She said: “I had a terrible time during my pregnancy – I won’t do it again. But it will all be worth it.

“My life, my confidence, my health, the way I feel about myself, everything changed dramatically after the surgery. If anyone is thinking about it, I say go for it. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. “
