Get your sunscreen wrong – skincare expert shares common mistakes

Summer is fast approaching.

Many of us can’t wait to enjoy the heat wave that looks set to hit the UK later this month. But with temperatures reaching 30 degrees, there are also risks.

It’s important to wear SPF to protect our skin – even when it’s not hot outside. Failure to do so can expose your skin to harmful UV rays, which can cause sunburn, premature aging, and an increased risk of skin cancer.

However, if you just put on sunscreen and go, then you’re probably doing it wrong. Celebrity skincare expert Scott McGlynn – AKA @scottmcglynnofficial – listed the common mistakes people make.

In a video shared with his 245,000 social media followers, he revealed how applying the wrong products can lead to skin breakouts.

“The SPF for the body, which we apply for the neck down, is not for your face. It’s a face SPF for a reason If you put the body one on your face, it will break out. You find it very fat. Do not absorb. as a face SPF does and the same goes for the lips.

“I’ve seen lots of people on holiday putting SPF on their lips, leaving them shiny and white, and no, you can get an SPF 30 lip balm very easily from any drugstore or any way you get your body products. Here’s one from Aldi, £2.99 I use it almost every day.
