At least I won college this year

The University of Sheffield has dropped to its lowest ever position in the QS World University Rankings, falling from 96 in 2023 to 104 in this year’s world rankings, which were released today.

The university received an overall score of 59.1 out of 100 based on several factors such as academic reputation, employment outcomes and sustainability.

This year is the second year that institutions have been judged on sustainability, with the University of Sheffield ranked 24th in this category in today’s rankings, up from 116th in 2023.

In terms of subject rankings, the picture was mixed in 2024 for the university, falling almost 20 places to 71st in mechanical engineering, but climbing for the third consecutive year in archaeology, coming in at 21st for that subject.

When the ranking began in 2012, the university was ranked 66th in the world and has not surpassed this ranking since.

In fact, the University of Sheffield has steadily fallen in the rankings, falling in all but three of the 12 years the rankings have been published.
