Liverpool defender Calvin Ramsay has joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old right-back joined Liverpool from Aberdeen for £4.2m in 2022, but injuries have hampered his starts and he has had loan spells with Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers.

He joined Preston last June but saw his appearances limited to just two before being recalled by Liverpool in January.

Ramsay was then sent to Bolton, but his minutes continued to be limited as he played three games for the Trotters, who missed out on promotion to the Championship after losing to Oxford in the League One play-off final.

‘I’m over the moon. It happened quickly and I met him with the manager (Shaun Maloney) two weeks ago.

“We had a really good conversation and there was an instant connection. I’m excited about the start of the season.

“Driving at the training ground, it was a real thrill and I’m hungry to get going and show everyone what I can do.

“It’s a good opportunity at a good club and I’m looking forward to leaving.”

Ramsay is Wigan’s second summer signing after Michael Olakigbe joined on loan from Brentford.
