Thief robs Barrie restaurant of liquor, leaves wine strewn

“Before leaving, a number of bottles of red wine were thrown around the restaurant. These bottles shattered and created a big mess,’ say the city police

A thief robbed a restaurant of alcohol in an overnight booze raid in Barrie’s south side early Monday morning.

Barrie Police responded to a report of a break-in overnight at a restaurant located on Fairview Road.

Cleaning staff arrived just after 8am on June 3 and discovered a broken window.

From the ensuing investigation, police say officers determined that between 2:45 a.m. and 3:06 a.m., an unknown male threw the weighted base of an outdoor umbrella through a small patio window to gain access to the premises.

Once inside, police say the man selected a quantity of assorted alcoholic beverages from behind the bar, along with canned drinks from refrigerators and loaded them into containers.

“Before leaving, a number of bottles of red wine were thrown around the restaurant. These bottles broke and created a big mess,” police said in a press release issued Wednesday morning.

From video surveillance obtained, police describe the suspect as a white male, 6 feet tall, 150 to 170 pounds, with long hair and a short beard. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and loose pants, carrying a crossbody bag.

In all, police say more than $1,500 in liquor was stolen. Additionally, the cost to repair the broken window is estimated to be approximately $1,000.
