Brian Deane picks the Bournemouth man he wishes Leeds United had signed in the transfer window

The goals dried up for Leeds United towards the end of the regular league season. Their much-vaunted attack failed to deliver in the crunch period, with the Whites scoring just five goals in their last five games as the club agonizingly missed out on automatic promotion. Four of those came in the pulsating win at Middlesbrough.

Was Patrick Bamford a big escape in the match? Undoubtedly. The striker has scored nine goals this calendar year.

United resisted the temptation to bolster their forward line in the January transfer window. Attacking right-back Connor Roberts arrived on loan from Burnley, but that proved to be their only deal.

Former Whites striker Brian Deane wishes his old club had signed Kieffer Moore rather than promotion rivals Ipswich Town in the winter market to boost their chances of a top-flight finish two positions. The Wales international has been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road after falling down the pecking order for a starting place at Bournemouth.

However, Moore ended up joining the Tractor Boys on a temporary basis. The experienced frontman starred for Ipswich, scoring seven times in 18 appearances to help them pip United into second place.

“I went to watch them against Stoke and a cross that came in where one of the strikers headed 10 yards over the bar and I thought that might be a problem,” Deane told Tribal Football. “If there aren’t different ways to score, you’re going to struggle because people will sort you out pretty quickly.

“Summerville is a very good player but when he gets on the ball they pack the area over the box now because they know he wants to come in and spin it. There wasn’t enough variety in my opinion.
