Hundreds of social homes in Enfield are set to become more energy efficient after Enfield Council won £3.5m of government funding.

Money from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund will provide a further 110 social housing tenants with warmer homes and lower energy bills once improvements are made to the 267 Council homes.

As part of Enfield upgradecouncil’s district-wide initiative to upgrade homes to make them warmer and more efficient, ten Edmonton properties have already received a “deep home renovation.”

Improvements included external wall insulation, mechanical ventilation and heat recovery system, triple glazing and new doors, solar panels, air source heat pumps and off gas properties.

Ayten Guzel, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “By improving the energy efficiency of these properties, the council will help deliver warm and energy efficient homes, reduce carbon emissions and tackle energy poverty .

“With these changes, we will help improve the comfort and well-being of some of the lowest-income households. We are committed to investing in existing homes in Enfield as part of our sound growth strategy.”

With the addition of the new funding, Retrofit Enfield will look to expand the scheme to 120 homes, up from ten, and integrate with an existing program of improvements to 14 blocks of flats and 157 flats. The aim is to bring their energy rating, known as EPC, to an expected C grade from D, E and F.
