Britney Spears drew a sketch of the bullring in Birmingham

Who had this on the 2024 bingo card? Britney Spears paints a picture of the choir arena and posts it on Instagram. The “Toxic” singer isn’t exactly known for her sketches either, so it’s an odd choice to start with…

Shared yesterday (June 5), Britney posted her drawing with the caption: ‘Just a pen and a church!’ In the face of what could only be the one the iconic Selfridges buildingit is what it looks like St. Martin’s Church in the foreground. And we will say this, not bad!

Capturing Birmingham’s old and new architectural landscape, she succeeds the shape, texture and design of a spaceship-like mall, while the Grade II* listed church is drawn in fine detail. The combination of both together means that this could not be anywhere else in the world.

So the big question remains: “Why?” Well, the Grammy Award winner, once the Princess of Pop, has been to Birmingham before. The last time, as far as we know anyway, was with her Piece of Me Tour in 2018 at Resorts World Arena (then called Arena Genting).

Given that they are about 10 miles apart, it is unlikely that she would have spent much time sightseeing in Brum – especially as she was due to be in Blackpool the next day. And since that was six years ago, we’re guessing she probably sketched the picture from a photograph rather than from memory.

Which led us to trawl through endless images of St. Martin’s Church, with the choir arena just behind it. Now, we’re not saying we found it correct picture, but the angle is very similar, don’t you think? Which apparently was taken from the roof St. Martin’s Cloth Market.

So at least we think we’ve proven that Britney Spears sketched the bullring. We just need the song “Oops!… I Did It Again” to confirm!
