Former Derby County, Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Hull City Leicester City and West Brom defender Curtis Davies makes international football history

Curtis Davies became Cheltenham Town’s oldest EFL player last season and has now made international football history.

The 39-year-old defender scored the first goal for Sierra Leone in a 2-1 win against Djibouti on Wednesday.

It was his second cap after appearing in a 2-0 friendly win over Somalia in Morocco.

But this week’s game was his competitive debut and he is believed to be the oldest international debutant to score in a World Cup qualifying competition.

Davies was born in East London, but his father Eugene was born and raised in the West African country of Sierra Leone.

Curtis was named in Fabio Capello’s England first team in January 2008 but did not take the field for the Three Lions at senior level.

He played in the Premier League for West Brom, Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Hull City, scoring in the FA Cup final against Arsenal in 2014.

Davies spent six seasons at Derby County before joining Cheltenham last summer and made 37 League One appearances, including a memorable winner away at Burton Albion.
