The new portal will be installed on the M621 next week

Road users are being warned of the closure of a motorway in Leeds next week when a large portal is erected.

National Highways is progressing towards the final stages of improving the M621 between junctions 1 and 7. The final portal of this program will be installed between junctions 2 and 2a of the M621.

Seating for the portal was built off Elland Road, close to the town’s Evangelical Church and Holbeck Community Centre.

To keep drivers and workers safe while the portal is installed, the M621 will be closed in both directions on the nights of Thursday 13 June and Friday 14 June 2024. The closures will be between junctions 1 and 3 eastbound and junctions 4. and 1 to the west. This work will be carried out both nights between 8pm and 6am.

After the “super-span” gantry — so called because it spans both carriageways — is installed, there will be some additional closures as engineers complete structural finishing work and begin removing traffic management sections.

Fully signed detour routes will be in place during the closure. All work is subject to weather and may need to be rescheduled if conditions such as high winds prevent it from continuing.
