All trains to or from Huddersfield have been canceled this weekend

Trains will not run through Huddersfield Station this weekend as major improvement work continues.

Passengers are being warned that no trains will run to, from or through the station this weekend as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU). Instead, train services will be diverted or replaced by buses.

Network Rail’s multi-billion pound TRU scheme is set to improve journeys for passengers traveling between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York. The aim is to make northern towns and cities better connected, with more frequent and faster trains and a cleaner and greener railway.

The work at Huddersfield Station includes the creation of two new platforms and the extension of existing platforms to improve the station’s capacity, as well as upgrading the tracks to support more trains.

There will be a new walkway and lifts, plus step-free access from the front entrance to improve accessibility. The station roof is also being restored, and the train shed roof is said to be one of the few remaining examples of an ‘Euston roof’ existing on an operational railway.
