Flambards season pass holders furious as popular rides set to close

Regular visitors to one of Cornwall’s most famous family attractions have been left fuming after learning it has closed four of its most popular attractions. Helston-based Flambards has announced that The Thunderbolt, Sky Swinger, SkyForce and The Hornet Rollercoaster are to leave the site shortly after years of operation.

He blamed the continued lack of specialist parts for the race closures, saying it made maintenance “increasingly difficult”. Flambards announced on Monday (June 3) that it would be reducing its price as “a number of our thrilling rides” will be temporarily closed.

However, two days later on June 5, the theme park admitted the full extent of the problem on social media, explaining that they were in fact “withdrawing a number of our thrill rides”. This left many loyal visitors and families feeling angry at the decision, especially those who had recently purchased season tickets. They took to the comments section of the Facebook post to express their dismay at the announcement.

One person wrote: “I’m going to have two unhappy children. I can’t believe you didn’t know that when you issued the season passes. In my opinion they should be fully refunded for the inconvenience.”

Another commented: “We have a season pass, paid £250 for our family. All three of our kids are too old for all the remaining races, so now we have no reason to go. I feel like this is now a mis-sold membership and we would NEVER have paid FULL PRICE three times over. We need to be reimbursed for this.”

While another said: “So for less than three visits you offer a partial refund to pass holders, however anyone else has to accept that it’s ok I paid £45 for a season including the big races which going on now and Just to add insult to injury, you’re also going to close the park for the better part of a month in what is already a short season?”

A fourth added: “Thank you so much for letting us know AFTER we bought our local annuals! You must have known before this announcement. The cost of living has affected everyone, we had to save time to buy four local memberships. , and now you say you reduced your entry fees accordingly, well, but I paid £135 and my mum also paid £45 for a ticket. Yes, we enjoyed these races, but it’s a slap in the face to the locals who supported you with their purchases. The least you could do is give a partial refund to the locals because you have ‘adjusted’ the entry prices.”

Another who was angry with the park for not informing people of the closures before they bought season passes wrote: “I want you to rip off the locals, locals who have visited year after year. This would have been known when 100 locals were still buying their season passes. you still decided not to mention that almost ALL of your main attractions were leaving.

Others have expressed disappointment that they feel they are not value for money. One person said: “Sorry but giving zero compensation to anyone who has already visited more than three times is an absolute joke as the new offer is not what I paid for!”

In response to questions about season tickets, a Flambards spokesperson commented: “Pass holders: partial refunds are available for those who wish to continue with their passes once we reopen or the option to cancel your passes is available. bear with the team as we go through your email and phone call requests, we do our best to get back to everyone as quickly as possible.”
