Tottenham assistant in talks with Birmingham as Ange Postecoglou could lose key member of staff

Chris Davies is in talks to make his first managerial move, which would see him leave his role as assistant head coach to Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham to become the new Birmingham City manager.

The 39-year-old manager has been in demand this season and turned down the chance to become Swansea City boss midway through the campaign to continue working with Postecoglou and the Spurs coaching staff. Now, with the season over, Tottenham have given Davies permission to speak to Birmingham.

The now League One club went through a succession of managers last season in John Eustace, Wayne Rooney and Tony Mowbray before being relegated from the Championship. Now the club, co-owned by NFL legend Tom Brady, have held talks with the highly regarded Spurs coach to bring them back to the second division.

If Davies leaves Tottenham, Postecoglou will have to decide whether to bring in a new assistant manager or promote Matt Wells or Ryan Mason to the role and then bring in another manager.
